Economic development (el desarrollo económico, le développement économique) is an AP-level theme that examines how economies grow and change in target-language countries, including topics like globalization, trade, urbanization, and inequality.

Examples

  • Mexico's maquiladoras are factories near the U.S. border that illustrate globalization's impact on local economies.
  • The European Union and the euro have significantly shaped France and Germany's economic integration.
  • China's economic reforms since 1978 (改革开放 gǎigé kāifàng) transformed it into the world's second-largest economy.
