Mean median mode
MathDefinition
Three measures of central tendency used to describe the center of a data set. The mean is the arithmetic average, the median is the middle value when data is ordered, and the mode is the most frequently occurring value.
Examples
- For {2, 3, 5, 5, 9}: mean = 4.8, median = 5, mode = 5
- In a skewed salary distribution, the median is often more representative than the mean
- A shoe store uses mode to determine which shoe size to stock the most
