How It Works
- Simplify each side by distributing and combining like terms.
- Use addition or subtraction to move variable terms to one side and constants to the other.
- Use multiplication or division to isolate the variable.
- Check the solution by substituting back into the original equation.
Examples
- 3x + 5 = 20 → 3x = 15 → x = 5
- 2(x − 4) + 3 = 11 → 2x − 8 + 3 = 11 → 2x = 16 → x = 8
- (x/4) + 7 = 10 → x/4 = 3 → x = 12
