Definition

Adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomials by combining like terms and using the distributive property. Addition and subtraction combine like terms; multiplication requires distributing each term.

Examples

  • (3x² + 2x) + (x² - 5x) = 4x² - 3x
  • (2x + 3)(x - 4) = 2x² - 5x - 12
  • (x + 1)³ = x³ + 3x² + 3x + 1
