Segments and rays

Math

Definition

A line segment is a part of a line with two endpoints and a definite length. A ray is a part of a line that starts at one endpoint and extends infinitely in one direction. Both are fundamental building blocks in geometry.

Examples

  • The edge of a desk represents a line segment with two clear endpoints
  • A beam of light from a flashlight models a ray — it starts at the source and goes outward indefinitely
