Slope-intercept form
MathDefinition
A way to write the equation of a line as y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. This form makes it easy to identify the steepness and starting point of a line for graphing.
Examples
- y = 2x + 3 has slope 2 and crosses the y-axis at (0, 3)
- A phone plan charging $0.10 per minute with a $5 base fee: y = 0.10x + 5
Key Fact
y = mx + b
