War on terror

Definition

The global military, political, and intelligence campaign launched by the United States after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. It included wars in Afghanistan (2001–2021) and Iraq (2003–2011), expanded surveillance programs, and the creation of the Department of Homeland Security.

  • The U.S. invaded Afghanistan in October 2001 to dismantle al-Qaeda and remove the Taliban
