Definition

Recurring atmospheric conditions in a region driven by air pressure systems, fronts, and global circulation patterns. High-pressure systems generally bring clear skies, while low-pressure systems bring clouds and precipitation. Fronts mark boundaries between different air masses.

  • Cold fronts pushing through the Midwest, bringing brief intense storms followed by cooler, drier air
  • The jet stream steering weather systems across North America from west to east
  • Sea breezes forming on coastal areas during the day as land heats faster than water
