Definition

Biological control systems that maintain homeostasis or amplify a response. Negative feedback loops reverse a change to restore balance, while positive feedback loops amplify a change until a process is complete.

Examples

  • Thermostat-like regulation of body temperature (negative feedback)
  • Blood clotting cascade amplifying platelet response at a wound (positive feedback)
  • Insulin and glucagon regulating blood sugar levels (negative feedback)
