Reflexive verbs

Foreign Languages

Definition

Reflexive verbs describe actions that the subject performs on itself. They use reflexive pronouns (me, te, se, nos, os, se in Spanish; me, te, se, nous, vous, se in French) and are common for daily routines like washing, dressing, and waking up.

Examples

  • Spanish: Me levanto a las siete. (I get up at seven.)
  • French: Je me couche à dix heures. (I go to bed at ten.)
  • Spanish: Ella se peina antes de salir. (She combs her hair before leaving.)
Key Fact

In Spanish/French, reflexive pronouns go BEFORE the conjugated verb (me lavo / je me lave), but AFTER in affirmative commands (lávate / lave-toi)
