Sampling methods

Math

Definition

Techniques used to select individuals from a population for a study. Common methods include simple random sampling, stratified sampling, cluster sampling, and systematic sampling. The goal is to obtain a sample that represents the population accurately.

Examples

  • Simple random sample: drawing 50 names from a hat containing all students' names
  • Stratified sample: selecting students proportionally from each grade level
  • Cluster sample: randomly choosing 5 classrooms and surveying every student in those rooms
