Foreign Languages

Definition

Weather expressions are phrases used to describe climate conditions. In French, most use 'il fait' (il fait chaud, il fait froid); in Spanish, most use 'hace' (hace calor, hace frío); and in German, 'es ist' (es ist kalt, es ist warm) or specific verbs like 'regnen.'

Examples

  • Hace sol y mucho calor hoy. (It's sunny and very hot today.)
  • Il pleut depuis ce matin. (It's been raining since this morning.)
  • Es schneit und es ist sehr kalt. (It's snowing and it's very cold.)
Key Fact

French: il fait + adj (chaud/froid), il pleut, il neige | Spanish: hace + noun (calor/frío/sol/viento), llueve, nieva | German: es ist + adj, es regnet, es schneit
