Movement and regions

Definition

Two of the five themes of geography. Movement examines how people, goods, and ideas travel from place to place. Regions are areas defined by common characteristics such as physical features, climate, language, government, or culture.

Examples

  • The movement of immigrants from Europe to America in the 19th century
  • The Midwest as a region defined by flat terrain, agriculture, and similar climate
  • The spread of the internet as an example of the movement of ideas and information
